    Portraits by Jen Seron

    What are these?

The drawings, paintings, and computer-modified portraits range in size from 24"x18" to 12"x12" on acid-free paper, Bristol, canvas, or wood panels. This series began in 1984 and continues today. Most portraits are done with Dixon Ticonderoga, Sanford Design Ebony, Schwan Stabilo 8052, and Prismacolor colored pencils, charcoal, Caran d'Ache, acrylic ink, watercolor, Prismacolor Art Marker, and other media.

Some portraits are done on canvas in mixed media including pastel, Caran'dAche, Charcoal, Acrylic, Acrylic Ink, and/or Oil. Other portraits are executed in mixed media, photographed, then modified using computer software.

    Why do so many portraits?

Since I was a child I wanted to draw from life. I specifically wanted to draw faces, but nobody would sit still for me. So I drew my own face. I tried different expressions. It was fun and still is! I've done hundreds; I love doing portraits of others, too! The Lamed Vavnick series is mostly portraits of people seen in NYC and on NYC subways.

Who wants a portrait of themself!?
