Flowers

Flower Series oil and chalk pastel drawing of a sunflower and its leaves by Jen Seron (all rights reserved)

    Flowers Series by Jen Seron

    What are these?

When I first moved to New York City I worked as a front-office trade support headhunter (quants, software and hardware people, project managers). I worked from 7AM until 7PM. Then I did calls to follow up on resumes of potential candidates at home in the evening. On my weekend I would buy a beautiful bouquet of flowers then draw them in chalk and oil pastels.

    Why make them?

I celebrate the vivid life of flowers with this series. Flowers are so beautiful. When I taught Plant Biology at University of Illinois, and then later to PreK children at the Vanderbilt YMCA in New York City, we would dissect the flowers and label their parts. This series is a celebration of the beauty of flowers (not dissected). Even as a scientist and science instructor, there is some aspect of the natural world that demands recognition simply for its own presence. I love and respect the world we share with other organisms, I celebrate flowers here.

    Bouquet for your wall?

Contact me if you want me to do a drawing of your favorite flowers? I can do it remotely if you tell me what kind of flowers you like! Contact me at jen@jenseron.com
