The People. This graphic art illustrates one inspiring version of creation and human existence attributed to the Dine or Navajo people. I was inspired and felt like a bell deep inside me rang. I read more and learned more, until this series flew out of me. Drawn in mixed media on archival paper, this is part of the Dine Creation series by Jen Seron (all rights reserved) *For more see one of many great versions: Matthews, W. (1897). Reprinted 1994. Navajo Legends. University of Utah Press.*
The images above of my interpretation of one version of the incredibly beautiful Dine creation story range in size from 24"x12" to 9"x9" and were done in colored pencil, Caran d'Ache, wax pencil, and pastel on Acid Free paper from 2006-2007.
I was inspired by one version of the Dine creation story. This story has meaning that all of us can relate to today. Take a look into Dine creation stories yourself. These drawings just flew out of me after I read Dine creation stories. They wanted to exist and I did my best to be true to their spirit. I am honored that these images emerged through me. I hope they are inspire you to explore wisdom of the Dine.
The few images posted here are part of a series of illustrations of one version of the Dine (Navajo, Navaho) creation story. Creation is told through images in series accompanied by one version of the story (Matthews, 1897).
