Month 1. Vivid oil painting of hopes for fetus/new individual by end of month 1 in this 9 Months pregnancy series by Jen Seron (all rights reserved)
This series represents the experience, feeling, and biology associated with being pregnant.
The nine paintings in this series were done from 2005-2006 in oil paint as well as mixed media including acrylic ink, oil pastels, R&F handmade oil pigment sticks, Caran d'Ache, acrylic gel medium, and Art Marker on canvas. Each painting but one is 36"x48." One painting is 48"x36," the swimmy fishy canvas.
Once upon a time I had a baby. Before I had that beloved baby there was about 9 months of pregnancy. It was a high risk pregnancy for me. Every month that passed without loss I was so thankful. Now, other people have different experiences and expectations. I know that the world is overpopulated. But I am so thankful that after about 9 months I gave birth to a healthy child. About four years later the idea for this painting series flew out of me when my child was busy at a part-time preschool.
Quiz: Which month (or months) was (or were) hardest for me? Can you tell from the pictures? Can you find the month where I was hospitalized for dehydration?
Did you have pregnancy experiences and visions? Do you want a representation of them? Let me know! I'll do images of your 9 months in similar intuitive style! What fun! If you are interested in exhibiting or acquiring prints of this series, please contact me at jen@jenseron.com
